Tampa Video Production Studio Films Web Series In-House

Our Tampa video production studio recently wrapped principal photography on a web series we created and filmed right here in our own studio! The series combines the documentary style of NBC’s The Office with a behind-the-scenes look at an Independent film-making studio. In conjunction with the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Film Commission (FilmSPC), we were able to bring our web series, “BTS” (short for “Behind The Scenes”) to life. The dedicated talents of local actors, crew, community partners and screenwriters all working together made the project possible. The film-within-a-film concept allowed us to show the process of filmmaking from a highly satirized and comedic (at least we hope so!) perspective.

Director Christian Cashmir and the BTS cast perform a read through of the script at our Tampa video production studio.

“BTS” follows a local group of filmmakers at a St. Petersburg video production company as they attempt to produce a big-budget science fiction musical starring an actor who was just indicted on charges of arson. The team tries to manage a multitude of unhinged actors alongside numerous production problems, money and legal issues; needless to say, hijinks ensue!

With a finalized concept and scripts in hand, FilmSPC awarded us a generous grant and it was off to the races for a very busy and fun few weeks! We filmed nearly the entire series in-house at our Tampa video production studio, utilizing everything from our green screen studio and white cyc studio to our editing suites, nothing was off-limits. Led by director Christian Cashmir, our Tampa video production crew worked tirelessly on set (and through the holidays!) to ensure a smooth production as we hustled to film 8 episodes in only 13 days!

Director of photography Eric C. helped film the series using gear from our St Petersburg video equipment rental package like our Canon C300′s and Canon CN-E cinema lenses, giving the series the high-quality look and feel of a primetime network show. Most of the principal photography took place in the office area of our studio, but a few scenes were filmed in our Tampa green screen studio. This is where the scenes for the movie-within-a-movie science fiction part of the series took place.

Our director of photography is always happy when he’s by a camera!

We also traveled to St. Petersburg/Clearwater’s gorgeous beaches to film part of the sci-fi movie that the team creates within the show, and thanks to FilmSPC and Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, our Tampa video production crew were able to film everything from full-blown ninja battles on the beach to tender, romantic dance numbers at sundown.

After a challenging two weeks, we wrapped principal photography on the entire first season! With production complete, we now move on to the next stage– post-production! Over the next few weeks the team will be editing all of the footage in our Florida video studio, prepping the series for it’s debut in 2017.

Recently we kept it a little closer to home. Tampa’s own Cepeda Mckay, Zachary Mckay and No limits collaborated with Litewave Studios to shoot a promotional video for their upcoming sold out concert. The award-winning group is a contemporary youthful gospel group whose songs are inspired by scripture and life experiences. They are full of energy and positivity and their sound is incredible. They have worked with some of the biggest names in the gospel industry including Tye Tribbett, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and The Legendary Clark Sisters and have their sites set on the world stage.

The group arrived at our Tampa bay video studio on a Saturday evening prepared with outfit changes and musical instruments in hand – ready to make a video to wow their audiences. The video’s concept: it would play before their concerts to hype the audience before their performances. The video would consist of quick stylized cuts and all slow motion footage. The group took full advantage of our studio’s makeup room and lounge area, before shooting began, where they were able to relax and get ready to film.

The Litewave Studios’ crew enjoys getting creative in the Tampa white cyc studio and seeing how we can transform the space. Our production designers built faux brick wall flats and added a soft rose color backlight for the first scene of the shoot. We also filmed on the white cyc background for the second scene and in post production created a black and white effect. The production studio team filmed with a Sony a7s ii and a variety of cinema lenses for the video.

After filming in the studio finished, the team saw an opportunity to capture some impromptu shots at night in the backlot. Our large industrial parking area behind the studio acted as a perfect backdrop to film the band. The crew set up a fog machine, and an intense backlight to give a dramatic look. This shot ended up being used as the first and last shot in the video.

Once postproduction was completed on the video, we then had the opportunity to attend the concert where the video would premier. The Litewave Studios’ team provided video and photography services during the performance (along with enjoying the fantastic music). The show began with a large opening act (over 20 performers), and then the video created in our St. Petersburg video studio played to introduce No Limits. The audience received the video well and the band was ready to take the stage. The group entered and the performance hall was flooded with energy.

As a bonus to the show, Grammy-nominated gospel recording artist, Tye Tribbett, joined the group on stage and performed some of his popular hits and then performed with No Limits for the closing number.

As the show came to an end, the group surprised the whole crowd. Zachary McKay, got down on one knee and proposed to Christina, another singer of the band, in front of the sold out audience. She said yes!

The studio shoot and the concert were a blast. We greatly enjoy working with such inspiring musicians like Cepeda and Zachary McKay and the No Limits group.
